Book illustrations and covers

Currently I am working for a number of publishers including Black Velvet Seductions, Pink flamingo and Desdemona.

Due to interest in the process of how some of my work comes about a friend suggested that I take a look at an individual project and talk though the process. It usually starts with a sample from the book, a seminal scene, that sums up the spirit of the book. In this case it came from a series of e-mails discussing the scene.

The book is Toy’s Story, acquisition of a sex toy by Robert Cloud, published by Black Velvet Seductions

The first description came in as… “The scene is a man standing on the staircase looking down at a lady hung from the ceiling”, not that detailed, but it lead to this first set of rough sketches.. click on the pictures to see them more clearly

Perhaps I should explain why I only sketch roughly at this stage. There are three reasons, the first, time, the second, it seems such a waste to spend ages on a picture that is just to illustrate a quick "for instance" and the third is I like to put 100% into the final picture and over sketching seems to somehow dilute the final picture for me.
