Book Illustrations and Covers

Work in progress

The process continues with discussions with my client, the publisher, the art director and the writer.

This was the start picture

This was a part of the dialogue……

“The door appearing yet smaller but the light from behind David more brilliant.. like the light at the end of the tunnel.
David should appear almost completely black.. no detail at all.. fuzzed... like someone standing in front of a brilliant light.. you get no details.. only their silhouette.
David's body needs to be smaller on the pic.. but larger in shape.. this man looks like he might weigh 275.. David is 100 pounds larger.
Okay, lastly, I have never pictured Doreen as a frontal view. In the book she was turned to face the stairs as David ascended them. I see her more as turned to her side and facing away from the looking and half turned toward the stairs, and only a hint at the edges of her breasts. (This view in a full body would be more acceptable on a cover because only her ass and a hint of her breast would be visible.)
If we are also planning to do the softer aspect.. I see her head slumped forward as she is unconscious.
Another reason I want the upper torso is if the book is followed exactly.. he places a belt on her to help lessen the strain of a long term suspension.. I really do not want the belt visible..
So the more I think about it the full body version would not fit the book.. we really do need and want just the upper portion..
Also in the book.. the cuffs are spread apart by a 6 inch bar.. there is a reason for this in the lifestyle. it tears less on the shoulders and allows more freedom of the motion of the head. In long term suspensions that freedom is essential.

This rough sketch is the result and this formed the basis for the final picture
